Trout Are Coming to the Pond
Updated: Oct 10
Every fall we stock our half-acre pond with rainbow trout, and this year's fish arrive the week of October 19.

We're putting in 101 rainbow trout, about 11 to 13 inches long, from an Ohio fish hatchery. Golden shiners go in with them so the trout have something to eat, and we feed a good fish feed whenever the water is warm enough for them to eat.
Why fall?
Trout like cold water. Stocking in the fall lets them settle in while the water is cool. They feed and grow most in cool fall and spring weather and slow down in the coldest weeks, and by spring they're ready to catch.
They'll share the pond with the fish that live there year-round: catfish, largemouth bass and bluegill.
When can you fish?
Fishing opens in spring 2027. We haven't set days and hours yet. When we do, bring your own rod and bait. A few rules: no swimming or wading, kids need to be watched the whole time, and if you keep fish, cook them to 145°F. Please read our Food Safety & Disclaimers before you come.
